About our Welcoming Dogs endorsement scheme

No one should be forced to choose between their dog and a safe place to sleep.

That's why we run our Welcoming Dogs endorsement scheme. We work with homelessness services across the UK to support you in becoming dog-friendly.

By joining our scheme, you'll be helping us keep people and their pets together. Dogs offer unconditional love and companionship, which can be especially vital for people experiencing homelessness. For many people experiencing homelessness, their dog may be the only stable and positive relationship they have.

Our research with Homeless Link shows that less than 10% of hostels are dog-friendly. This means that many dog owners are unable to access vital support and accommodation because of their dog.

Our Welcoming Dogs endorsement scheme is free, easy to access and tailored to your service. It's suitable for any homelessness service including if you operate:

  • Emergency accommodation
  • Temporary or supported accommodation
  • Day centre or access hub
  • Detox or rehab service

We'll work with you to become dog-friendly. If you're already accepting dogs, we'll support you to strengthen your existing policies.

Why should my service accept dogs?

Becoming dog-friendly can make a huge difference to your service, not just the dog owner you're supporting.
